Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sylacauga by IHG

In my experience, a double queen has always come with at least 4 bath towels, 2 to 4 hand towels, and 4 washcloths, but this room only had 2 towels, 2 hand towels, and 2 washcloths. Requesting more from the front desk was not exactly feasible because I didn't notice it until I was already in the shower. I arrived for breakfast 30 minutes after it started to find several empty serving trays which were not replenished by the time I left the lobby 30 minutes later. The pancake machine was also inoperable, which further limited the options available. Overall the room and other common areas were all clean from what I saw and nothing major to complain about - just expected better accommodations more in-line with previous Holiday Inn stays.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! Worst, dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in! Best to stay in Birmingham or nearby Calera. The interior floors, hotel entrance, rooms, pool areas, exterior grounds, parking etc extremely poor maintenance and covered with debris. It took 20 minutes for the front desk rep, who was dressed extremely unprofessional and inappropriate, to show up, and when I left to eat dinner, she hanging outside with a man smoking and visiting too long with her friend instead of attending to the front deck and phone. Entire facility is poorly lit and felt unsafe after dark. The rooms! Even worse. Peeling bathroom ceilings, dirty carpet, black mold smell, dirty bathrooms. Hate to say this but it looked and felt as someone might describe a ‘crack’ hotel. All of the hotels in sylacauga are in bad shape, so advice not to stay in the area at any hotel. Best to make a longer drive to fund a clean, safer feeling hotel.

The room was extremely humid. The AC is not working properly. I called the front desk and they were supposed to come look at it, never did. Walls and ceiling are paper thin and people were coming, going, moving around watching tv, talking all night long. I was not able to sleep which defeats the purpose of this $200 room. I’m listening to people walk above me as I type this. I had a medical procedure that requires me to rest and have a day full of events that I will be exhausted for. A terrible experience the to would not recommend.

Will not be back at this hotel!! This place has a serious ant problem! We were turning in for the night only to find ants crawling all over the sheets and pillows. When my husband went to the front desk to request a different room the lady tried to give him a large container of bug killer. My husband refused to spray the room and asked to switch rooms again. The only other room they had available had an issue with the spigot in the bathroom shower. Even with the bathroom door closed we had to listen to the water running in the bathtub all night. Before checking out the next morning we found a few ants crawling around the a/c unit and our daughter who stayed in a separate room found ants on the bathroom counter. So if you don’t mind non paying guests sharing your room and bed with you then enjoy, otherwise I would find somewhere else to stay.

The absolute worst IHG property I’ve ever stayed in and I have 100+ nights in IHG properties. We had a 2 bed room (sleeps 4) we had 3 people in the room and only had 2 bath towels. Asked for more - denied. Was told we had to turn in 2 towels to get 2 more. Housekeeping apologized but said they were only allowed to give out 2 towels at a time. They literally had to go wash and dry our 2 towels and bring them back to us. This is clearly an ownership problem. All employees were very apologetic. IHG needs to pull this license. It’s a true disgrace to the IHG brand.

The internet does not work at all. The whole place smells like a cheap gas station air freshener. The snack bar is more barren than my grandmother’s loins. The gym has 4-1/2 pairs of dumbbells. And my room’s air conditioner doesn’t work. This place should be condemned.

Woke up to this crawling on me!!!!! Worst Holiday Inn I’ve ever stayed in as well. The room stinks, mold in the toilet, mold around the toiletries in the shower, the front desk person is NEVER there and there was a used wash cloth hanging on the shower rod. Plus when checking in, I had been waiting for several minutes for someone to come in and when the phone rang they came running from the back…AND ANSWERED IT!!!! I just stood there so waiting even though I was there long before the phone rang!!!!! This place is absolutely terrible and old. It doesn’t take much to clean the room and the AC which would probably get rid of the smell.

Having stayed in Holiday Inn before, I felt confident heading to my hotel, that it was going to be a good experience. But, what I didn't anticipate, was that it would exceed my expectations. This was the best experience I've ever had at a Holiday Inn. The staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed. They were very polite, friendly and courteous. Always engaging and helpful to me whenever I had a question about the area. The food was of the highest quality, fresh, tasty and delicious. I was very happy with the wide selection of food choices. The grounds were very well lit at night, and most importantly, my room was very clean with plenty of fresh towels. My stay here was a memorable and happy one. I am very happy I chose to stay here. Five stars!!!
